Located in Brisbane’s vibrant West End, August is not your typical date night spot; you will find yourself in a 137-year-old heritage-listed church, as the sun shines through colourful stained-glass windows.
Hospitality duo, Matilda Riek and Brad Cooper, dreamt up this venue to spotlight European flavours, innovative techniques and seasonal ingredients.
Local Guides are brought to you by your friendly concierge, Worktones. We’ve got the plug on the best restaurants, cafes, bars and other gems in the neighbourhood by those who know a thing or two about serving up good times in the area.
Where a priest once stood, now stands an open kitchen where guests can get a glimpse of what’s ahead. Their extensive wine and cocktail list are a match made in heaven with dishes such as beef tartare and coq au vin.
In an area that is a cultural melting pot known for its food, breweries, and vintage treasure hunting, August fits right in - a heritage gem with plenty of charm.
We asked the August team for the spots they can’t get enough of in the area.

What's your go-to when you knock off?
-
Brad: Carina Bowls Club - on Sundays, we go and watch the footy. It has a real casual country feeling, and it's a bit wild.
-
Matilda: Riser Bakery. This is where I go before a long shift, rather than after, for the best salad sandwich made on their seeded bread.
Where are you eating on a day/night off?
-
Brad: Cafe O'Mai - for a baby pho, with a side of omelette bah mi.
- Matilda: New Farm Deli! And then stocking up on Italian pantry and deli goods afterwards.
-
Murphy: A crispy pork Bahn mi from Kim Thanh Hot Bread
It's staff party time... where would you take the whole team?
-
Brad: I'd take the whole team go-karting up at the Sunshine Coast, and then finish at the Kin Kin Hotel.
-
Matilda: Camp Hill Bowls Club - it has great views of Brisbane City, and is a very casual and easy place for groups.
-
Murphy: Kafenio West End - for authentic Greek and BYO wine
You have a 15 minute lunch break... where are you grabbing a quick bite?
-
Brad: Cordeaux Social Club - it's a few blocks away from us, the owner is a legend.
- Matilda: Alphabet Cafe! For the best baked goods. Everything is made in house and the produce is always local.
-
Murphy: Cordeaux Social Club for a coffee and BLT.
Gotta kill time... where are you going window shopping?
-
Brad: The records shops and antique shops all around Brisbane - Dutch Vinyl, Sonic Sherpa, or the Newstead Antiques.
-
Matilda: Lee Mathews on James Street always!
-
Murphy: Japanese knife studio.
