Everyday Lover feels like it’s been plucked straight outta Sydney or Melbourne and dropped into a little suburb called Trinity Park, 20 minutes north of the Cairns town centre.
That’s not to say the city slickers know best, but holy moly - one does not expect such a gorgeous contemporary venue in a not-so-touristy pocket of North Queensland.
Local Guides are brought to you by your friendly concierge, Worktones. We’ve got the plug on the best restaurants, cafes, bars and other gems in the neighbourhood by those who know a thing or two about serving up good times in the area.
By day, Everyday Lover is a cafe that serves as-good-as-it-gets Coffee Supreme coffee and a yummy Turkish Eggs among other tempting breakfast items. By night, it shifts into a wine bar pouring organic wines and serving steak frites, with vinyl spinning as the sun sets over the alfresco tables.
Big yes from us, but we had to hear more from them. What else should be on our radar?
The Everyday Lover team helping us put together this guide to Cairns:
- Joshua - Co-owner and chef
- Dan - Co-owner
- Jasmyn - Manager
What's your go-to when you knock off?
- Joshua - nōknōk in Cairns city centre. Great tiny new bar that’s just opened!
- Dan - The Fox Small Bar in Stratford. A tiny neighbourhood gem. It’s cosy, low-key, and exactly where you want to end up on a Friday night.
- Jasmyn - Three Wolves, Cairns. Amazing spirits, wine and cocktail menu, hidden down an alleyway in the CBD. Laughing Heart stand-up comedy night every Monday night, and amazing staff.
Where are you eating on a day/night off?
- Joshua - Nu Nu in Palm Cove or Hungry Wombat in Cairns.
- Dan - Alright, not technically Cairns, but so worth the drive. Jungle Fowl in Port Douglas is the go: top-tier food, dangerously good cocktails, and that kind of holiday energy you wish you could bottle.
- Jasmyn - The Bluewater, Trinity Park. Modern Australian and Seafood, creative drinks menu with a deck looking out over the Marina. Family friendly setting, but also great for catching up with a few mates.
It's staff party time... where would you take the whole team?
- Joshua - To Jungle Fowl in Port Douglas on Sunday for their long lunch.
- Dan - Beers at Everyday Lover to knock off, laser tag to work up a thirst, then beach hangs at Nu Nu in Palm Cove with Tropo snacks and cocktails to wrap it all up.
- Jasmyn - Cairns Wake Park - a cable park with an Inflatable Playground, licensed venue and fun for all ages and skill levels!
You have a 15 minute lunch break... where are you grabbing a quick bite?
- Joshua - Earl's Eatery for a focaccia and a naughty scroll.
- Dan - Miroku! A fresh face in town slinging Japanese eats that never miss. Always busy, always brilliant.
- Jasmyn - Earl's Eatery, Cairns CBD. A sandwich deli with delicious specialty drinks and sandwiches made on fresh house-made focaccia, paired with the best cinnamon scrolls Cairns has to offer!
Gotta kill time... where are you going window shopping?
- Joshua - Oceana Walk Arcade. Great vintage and record stores!
- Dan - Limberlost, where you go for “a quick look” and somehow lose two hours and leave plotting a full garden makeover and indoor jungle.
- Jasmyn - Cairns Night Markets. Open from 4:30 - 11pm every night, and featuring over 70 stalls that include handmade crafts and tropical-inspired jewellery to quirky souvenirs and local art. The atmosphere is lively but laid-back, making it easy to meander through at your own pace while soaking up the buzz of Cairns’ evening culture.
