We’ve always stuck to natural fabrics. Look at the fabric makeup of any of our garments and you’ll see only cotton and linen.
If you’ve ever wondered what that actually means, well - here’s the short of it:
For us, polyester just doesn’t cut it.
It’s a heavy fabric that traps heat and moisture, and when that inevitably makes you sweat, it’ll cling to the smell for dear life.
For starters, natural fabrics are actually comfortable and breathable - everything you want in the kitchen or on the floor, the environments we design for.
A key reason for using polyester is that it’s durable, which is true. In fact, it’s so durable it’ll outlive you, and spend the rest of time in landfill.
We design for longevity, not forever. Our garments will wear and fade, but when their time’s up, they break down naturally.
Wearing and fading is just part of the joy, anyway. With time, your garments will gain a certain character that polyester just can’t match. Like your favourite pair of jeans, age is a thing of beauty.
While you can thrash polyester, if you treat natural fabrics with a bit of love, they’ll go the mile for you.
That’s not to say they’re difficult to wash, but pay attention to care tags (they’re there for a reason). We also have care guides on all of our product pages if you want to read up before making a purchase. For the love of god, don’t put them in a dryer.
“But what about recycled polyester?,” we hear someone scream from the back.
While recycled polyester is touted as the more sustainable option as it diverts existing plastic from landfill, at the end of the day, it’s still a non-biodegradable synthetic material.
It sheds microplastics and has the same end-of-life challenges as virgin polyester. Eventually, it all goes to the same place.
There’s also a lack of transparency about this process, so be careful of green washing if you come across anyone preaching the good word of recycled polyester.
