Lunetta, Canberra: Uniforms For A Modernist Icon

PROJECT MISE EN PLACE

Lunetta is a special place in Canberra.

Its recent awards suggest as much: Gourmet Traveller 2025 ACT Restaurant of the Year and a hat in the 2026 Good Food Guide.

But to see it is to believe it. Perched atop the iconic Red Hill lookout in a 1963 modernist building, offering panoramic views of the city, it has all the makings of a special dining experience.

When this brief landed in our inboxes, with details of the location, brand and refurbishment, we knew the same energy and care would be dedicated to the uniforms.

It’s such an iconic building to Canberra. Seeing the renders and envisioning the space was really exciting. It was clear from the start that the owners have a sharp eye for detail and that this was going to be an incredible restaurant.

PROCESS NOTES

Owner, Tracy Keeley, found Worktones via a recommendation. Having owned and operated two long-time cafes in Canberra, Pollen and Bookplate, Lunetta was her newest project - an undertaking with her two sons, Nicholas and Matthew.

Tracy came to Sydney to visit the showroom and see samples. Wanting a uniform that was slightly more formal, the Unstructured Blazer instantly stood out.

Tracy was brilliant to work with and you could feel how passionate she was, particularly because she was doing this with her sons. We’ve seen the blazer work in so many different restaurants like Saint Peter and Olympus. Lunetta sits in a similar place in the market, needing a uniform that lifts to the level of all the finer details put into a venue like this.

From there it was a matter of playing with colours and details. As Lunetta means ‘little moon’, the brand’s colour palette was mostly neutral which Worktones used as a guide to find a specific Pantone for the fabric. Pocketing on the Nice Pants was rounded off, adapting from the square edges, to draw that reference to the moon again.

ORDER UP

The front-of-house at Lunetta, both the upstairs restaurant and downstairs more casual trattoria, wear the Unstructured Blazer and Nice Pants in a custom stone colour.

The chefs also wear the pants, making it a cohesive piece to tie the whole team together.

THE REVIEW

Working with Worktones on Lunetta and Lunetta Trattoria was a natural extension of the care and intention we bring to every detail of the venue. From the outset, it was important that our uniforms felt elevated yet practical, pieces that respected the architecture, the setting and the rhythm of service, while allowing our team to move with ease and confidence.

The result is a uniform that feels quietly assured. The tailoring, fabric weight and custom detailing hold their structure throughout long services, maintaining a polished appearance without feeling restrictive. The colour palette was thoughtfully developed to sit seamlessly within Lunetta’s neutral tones, reinforcing the brand story without ever overpowering it.

Across both Lunetta and the Trattoria, the uniforms provide cohesion while allowing each space to retain its own character. Most importantly, our team feel comfortable, confident and proud wearing them, which in hospitality, makes all the difference.
