Stephanie Alexander & The Kitchen Garden Foundation: A Shopping List for All Seasons

PROJECT MISE EN PLACE

Stephanie Alexander AO is regarded as one of Australia’s great food educators. From her thirty years as owner-chef of iconic Melbourne restaurants, she is often credited with revolutionising fine dining and significantly influencing Australian food trends.

Author of 17 influential cookbooks, including The Cook’s Companion, Stephanie's commitment to fresh, seasonal food became the catalyst for the establishment of the not-for-profit Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation in 2004.

Her charity teaches the next generation of children how to grow, harvest, prepare and share garden-grown food through practical cooking classes and immersive gardening activities.

To celebrate the impactful work of the Kitchen Garden Foundation and to help raise funds to ensure more children are given access to learn about where real food comes from and how to cook nourishing meals, we collaborated on an essential market bag featuring Stephanie’s all-season shopping list.

PROCESS NOTES

There are a few fans of Stephanie and The Cook's Companion in the Worktones' office, so the idea of collaborating on a project together was welcomed with open arms. We asked Stephanie to draw out her essential shopping list of all-season staples that would suit most budgets and tastes.

What made the cut? Unwashed potatoes, imperfect lemons, Swiss brown mushrooms, citrus, big leafy spinach, tart rhubarb, extra virgin olive oil, canned chickpeas and anchovies in olive oil.

A fool-proof list brimming with inspiration for your next shop.

Stephanie handwrote her list in her cursive script, which she often used to create bespoke menus for her iconic restaurant, Stephanie’s.

The handwritten design was then digitised and screen printed on the large blank carry-all market bag.

An important message from Worktones

At present, our carrier, Australia Post, has ceased shipping parcels to the US due to the Trump administration's repeal of the U.S. de minimis exemption for low-value goods, which requires duties to be prepaid on all parcels upon arrival in the US.

We apologise for any inconvenience and are working to find an alternative solution for our customers, but in the meantime, we have had to pause online sales in the US. For business orders, please email hi@worktones.com to discuss your options.
