PROJECT MISE EN PLACE
Peter Bouchier is a family-run Melbourne butcher that’s been around for over 40 years. With two stores and products stocked across the country, they have been setting the standard of butchers in Australia for decades.
Peter Bouchier came to Worktones looking to bring their uniforms in line with their premium, distinctive brand. They wanted a classic butcher’s look that retained the functionality of a traditional uniform, without it feeling generic or dated. So, we took a bespoke approach, designing shirts and an apron that was both fit-for-purpose and true to their brand.
“The goal was to embody their tagline ‘Butchers of Distinction’ by suiting up their team in uniforms that match the space and service experience, but are also functional for the butchers and retail staff who are very hands-on.”
- Sarah Mulholland, Worktones Account & Brand Manager
PROCESS NOTES
Using references from our existing ready-to-wear range in terms of construction and fabrics, our design team mocked up a butcher’s shirt, opting for a draped collar and buttoning detail for a classic silhouette. Branding was added on the back of the neck as a woven patch and their tagline as an embroidered detail on the sleeve.
The sampling process was key in this project. Two samples in different fabrications were sent to Melbourne for the Peter Bouchier team to wash and wear. Sampling the same style in different fabrics is a great way to notice the differences that you otherwise wouldn’t from a swatch. The feedback led to several adjustments before moving into production.
"Peter Bouchier is not the type of butcher to keep their staff behind the scenes. This extensive bespoke project reflects the level of detail and care they invest in making their team an integral part of the brand. They were highly collaborative and invested in the sampling process, which ultimately came through in the final uniform."

ORDER UP
The final uniform offering for Peter Bouchier included a butcher’s shirt in navy and custom one-button shirt in cream for the front of house. All staff wear a custom navy butcher apron modelled after our Mo apron with embroidery.
Different colourways keep the visual identity of the business while differentiating the roles amongst the two teams.
THE REVIEW
"We worked closely with Sarah throughout the process and really valued how collaborative and responsive she and the Worktones team were. They took the time to understand our brand, listen to feedback and refine the details through sampling and wear testing. The result is a uniform that feels distinctly Peter Bouchier, while still being practical for our team every day."
