Rosheen Kaul: A Cap Design Made From The Chef’s Own Sauce Recipe

PROJECT MISE EN PLACE

Rosheen Kaul is a Melbourne-based chef and author who made her mark as Head Chef at Etta and Co-Author of the acclaimed cookbook, Chinese-ish.

Since leaving Etta, Rosheen has been writing for Good Food, headlining events around the country, and working behind the scenes on her newest book, Secret Sauce

Released in September 2025, Secret Sauce features over 50 condiment recipes, with dozens of ideas on how to use them.

To celebrate the launch, Rosheen collaborated with Worktones on two slogan dad caps. For one of them, Worktones created a custom font handwritten with her Fire Chicken Buldak Sauce.

PROCESS NOTES

Rosheen and Huw Bennett, Director of Worktones, had been friends for some years prior to this collab. Huw had dined at Etta a few times and was floored with the flavours, drinks and overall hospitality. Eventually, Rosheen’s uniform became our Birdy and Syd aprons, and a friendship forged well beyond business.

Worktones had already organised to host the Secret Sauce Sydney book launch at the showroom when the idea came about to collaborate on some caps. We engaged Canberra-based designer, Daniel Da Cruz, to design the slogans which were, of course, Secret Sauce and Condiment Queen.

We took inspiration from the Sriracha Font that was made from handwriting with a bottle of Sriracha. Following a similar process, we made Rosheen’s Fire Chicken Buldak Sauce recipe, put it in a squeezy bottle, handwrote Secret Sauce, digitised and mocked it up on a cap, sent it off to production, and used the leftover sauce to make noodles. You can watch the process here

For the Condiment Queen cap, the design is a nod to the classic mayo bottle design with the creamy body and blue lid.

ORDER UP

Both caps use the Worktones’ classic Dad Cap shape, but are made in custom colours. Secret Sauce is a maroon base, similar to the Buldak Sauce, with contrasting bright red embroidery.

Condiment Queen is a washed powder blue with very light buttery yellow embroidery, including a canister symbol at the back. Both caps have a custom internal Rosheen x Worktones label.
