Taste Port Douglas: Uniforms For The Tropical Food Festival

PROJECT MISE EN PLACE

Taste Port Douglas is an annual four-day celebration of food and drink.

Australia’s top chefs and producers turn the tropical paradise of Port Douglas into one big, open-air dining room.

In their ninth year, the likes of Manu Feildel, Matt Stone and Telina Menzies joined the program to deliver unique events, from long lunches under palm trees to beachside cooking demos and fire cooking in rainforests.

With 18 headlining chefs and dozens of front-of-house staff in need of uniforms, Worktones partnered with Taste Port Douglas for the first time in 2025.

It took very little convincing when we came across Taste Port Douglas. Reina and Spencer Patrick, who organise the festival, were so easy to work with and had clearly built something special. The location, chef talent and scale of events were impressive, and we immediately wanted to be a part of it.

PROCESS NOTES

Worktones sent a range of apron samples to Reina and Spencer to help them decide which styles and colours suited best.

Of course, the weather in Port Douglas is warm and balmy even in the winter months, so comfort and breathability was key.

Our ready-to-wear range is made using natural fabrics which is the best option to keep staff cool and dry on long days.

After Taste Port Douglas selected their styles, Worktones went into production to get some of the pieces customised.

ORDER UP

The chefs of Taste Port Douglas wore the Birdy apron in Olive with the logo embroidered on the chest. Front-of-house wore the Taffy waist apron in Natural over a t-shirt screen printed with the festival’s artwork.

Worktones also provided custom Market Bags that were used as welcome packs for the chefs.

We couldn’t say no to attending the festival ourselves and it was unreal to see Australia’s most iconic chefs in our aprons while sharing a drink or two at the events. Reina and Spencer did an amazing job to pull together the program and we were grateful to be involved in our own little way.
